Touring Routes – Glenbeag Mountain Lodges location in the very heart of Scotland means the cabins are a great base for some touring day trips.
Head north over the Cairnwell Pass, the highest public road in Scotland and you will soon come to Braemar, home of the Braemar Gathering, visited each year by the Queen and Royal Family. A side trip to the Linn of Dee is a beautiful spot for a picnic, enjoying the spectacular water falls in a woodland location. Carry on through Royal Deeside to Balmoral Castle and Royal Lochnagar Distillery before hitting Ballater, with its many local shops displaying the Royal Warrant.
Head west on the road to Pitlochry through Kirkmichael. Visit Edradour, Scotland’s smallest distillery before then heading to big brother in Pitlochry centre, Bell’s Blair Atholl Distillery. Pitlochry is a tourist haven with a lovely main street with many shops, restaurants, the Festival Theatre, Dam and Fish Ladder. North of Pitlochry on the A9 you soon come to Blair Castle, followed shortly by the prestigious country store of the House of Bruar. The Queens view just off the A9 at Killiecrankie is one of the most famous views in Scotland. South of Pitlochry on the A9 is the charming cathedral town of Dunkeld.

Head south to Blairgowrie, the closest major town to the log cabins with a sizeable supermarket. It is an ancient market town centred around the historic Wellmeadow. On the way you pass the Glenshee Visitor Centre at Glenshee Pottery. Onwards towards Perth you find Scone Palace and Scone Racecourse before hitting the centre of Perth with its shopping centre, bus and train stations.
Head east and you soon hit Angus, through the neighbouring glen of Glenisla with its lovely scenery and past the fairytale looking Forter Castle. A small detour takes you past Peel Farm and Craft Centre at Lintrathen before hitting Kirriemuir. A bustling Scots town with tightly woven streets. Glamis Castle is only a few minutes further south with the driveway approach simply breathtaking.
